Is the eSIM Guide MCP server free?

Yes. There is no API key, no account and no usage fee. The server is read-only and rate-limited like the rest of the site, so it is built for assistants answering travellers rather than for bulk scraping.

Which AI assistants can use it?

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP. That includes Claude on the web and desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor, VS Code with Copilot, Windsurf, Gemini CLI and OpenAI Codex. The setup section above has the exact snippet for each.

Why not just ask my assistant about eSIMs directly?

Without a data source, an assistant answers from its training data, which is months old. eSIM plans are repriced and withdrawn constantly, so it will confidently recommend plans at prices that no longer exist. With the MCP server connected, it checks live data before it answers.

Can my AI assistant buy an eSIM for me?

No. The server only reads plan data. Your assistant shares a link and you finish the purchase on the provider's own checkout, so your payment details never pass through the assistant or through eSIM Guide.

Which countries and providers does it cover?

The same ones as this website: every country and multi-country region eSIM Guide lists, and every provider whose plans appear in its comparisons. Ask your assistant to call list_countries or list_regions to see the full list.

How up to date are the prices?

Every call reads the same plan database that powers eSIM Guide's comparison pages, which is resynced from providers on a rolling basis. Prices are converted into the currency you ask for using current exchange rates, and the provider's original price is returned alongside.
